How to develop diversity and inclusion in the company: Valtech Ukraine presents D&I Report 2024
Valtech has been developing the direction of diversity and inclusion since 2021. Over these years, Valtech has integrated D&I into its corporate culture, combining global best practices with local context to solve challenges. A similar concept is the GESI (Gender Equality and Social Inclusion) approach, but it focuses primarily on gender equality, social inclusion and integration of vulnerable groups, while D&I covers a wider range of diversity in the work environment, including gender equality, age diversity, neurodiversity and accessibility for people with disabilities.
Today, Valtech Ukraine presents its first Diversity & Inclusion Report 2024 with a focus on local circumstances. It summarizes achievements, challenges and key initiatives in the field of diversity, equal opportunities and inclusion. The report illustrates the company's adaptation to global and local changes, as well as the role of D&I in shaping a sustainable, supportive and inclusive corporate culture.
Why is the Diversity & Inclusion approach important in Ukraine?
Diversity & Inclusion is a strategic approach that changes the company's culture and contributes to the creation of a comfortable, safe and supportive working environment. In the context of the war in Ukraine, inclusivity, psychological safety and team support become even more important.
“We strive to provide a comfortable and safe space for our people, regardless of their experience and individual characteristics, an environment where they can grow and feel supported,” notes Anastasia Kaisyn, Head of People & Culture at Valtech Ukraine.
Key D&I initiatives and projects
- Creating a veteran-friendly environment
We support colleagues who are currently defending Ukraine, as well as those returning from military service, helping them adapt and integrate into the work environment. We create a space where veterans feel respected, supported and have equal opportunities for career development. In addition, we train teams and managers in ethical communication during wartime to ensure mutual understanding, psychological support, and mutual respect.
- Cultural Diversity Project
As a global company, we regularly face challenges related to collaborating with colleagues from different countries and cultures, so we founded the Cultural Diversity Project - an initiative that helps unite people through learning, dialogue, and shared celebration of diversity. We organized interactive lectures on cultural diversity, in particular on the traditions and work cultures of Azerbaijan, Poland, Portugal, attracting over 120 participants.
- Supporting underrepresented groups
Accelerating into Leadership is a global program that helps representatives of underrepresented groups develop their careers through mentoring, educational resources, and expanding professional opportunities with the support of local and international leaders.
- Supporting neurodiversity and people with disabilities
We implemented an office accessibility audit, organized lectures on supporting people with visual impairments, and launched global neurodiversity training for teams and managers.
- Charitable initiatives
In 2024, Valtech Ukraine held two charity auctions together with Superhumans and Veteran Hub, which helped finance rehabilitation sessions and support for veterans.
"We are convinced that true inclusion is not only about equal opportunities, but also about supporting each other in the most difficult moments. This report is our reflection on the path we have taken and a step forward towards an even more open and cohesive community," emphasizes Svitlana Gerasimova, Managing Director of Valtech Ukraine.
